Islamabad: The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert predicting significant monsoon rainfall across Balochistan from August 20 to 22, 2024, with potential for heavy falls and flash flooding.

According to Press Information Department, the forecast includes thundershowers with isolated heavy falls at scattered places in Northeastern Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Pishin, Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat, as well as Eastern parts of Balochistan including Khuzdar, Dadu, Lasbela, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Washuk, Kachhi, and Jafarabad. The anticipated rains may cause flash flows in streams, particularly in areas like Khuzdar, Dadu, Lasbela, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Washuk, Musakhel, Duki, Barkhan, Sibi, and Kohlu, with potential damage to river bridge abutments due to erosive action of increased flows.

NDMA has directed local authorities and rescue services to maintain high alertness, recommending regular monitoring of hydraulic structures such as bridges, culverts, small dams, and flood protection structures to mitigate the potential impacts of flooding. The public is advised to remain vigilant, follow instructions from local authorities, and stay informed through updates and the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely alerts.
