Monsoon 2024 Daily Update: NDMA Reports Minimal Damage and Casualties

Karachi: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released its daily situation report for July 3, 2024, covering the impacts of the current monsoon season across Pakistan. The report, which summarizes data from 1300 hours on July 2 to 1300 hours on July 3, 2024, indicates relatively low damage and casualties despite ongoing heavy rainfall in several regions.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, the last 24 hours saw limited casualties, with two children tragically losing their lives in Larkana, Sindh, due to a palm tree displacement caused by heavy rainfall. This incident, initially occurring on June 21, was officially recorded in the NDMA’s report following confirmation from local authorities on July 2.

Infrastructure damage remains minimal, with notable incidents including the loss of 36 goats due to sky lightning in Punjab’s Layyah district and a wooden bridge washout in Gilgit Baltistan, where a 15-meter section was affected. Fortunately, an alternate route is available, mitigating immediate impacts on local transportation.

The report also details cumulative figures from the start of the reporting period, citing seven deaths and six injuries across the country, predominantly in Sindh. The damage to private property has been relatively contained, with 15 houses reported damaged and 52 livestock lost.

Despite these incidents, the NDMA highlights that road and bridge damages have been minimal, with proactive measures by local authorities preventing more significant impacts. No new relief camps have been established, and there were no new rescue operations involving boats or aviation assets in the last 24 hours, reflecting the manageable scale of the current monsoon challenges.

As the monsoon season progresses, the NDMA continues to monitor the situation closely, coordinating with provincial disaster management authorities to ensure timely responses to any emerging threats and maintaining regular public awareness through media channels.
