Hyderabad, February 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Widespread anger gripped Telangana over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the conception of the State. The Prime Minister had said in Parliament that ‘BJP was not against the formation of Telangana but the way it happened was objectionable.’ This has led to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Government under Chief Minister Chandrasekara Rao declaring a state-wide protest.
The flashpoint between the Rao and Modi had opened a few days ago after the former wanted a new Constitution for the country. Prime Minister Modi gave a fiery speech in Rajya Sabha yesterday, mostly against the Congress party. In Telangana, TRS and the Congress took strong objection to Modi’s remarks on bifurcation of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, demanding an unconditional apology.
State Finance and Health Minister T. Harish Rao criticised Modi for “spewing venom” against Telangana and hurting the sentiments of the people, saying that the Centre had denied the State its due. The Centre was insisting on electricity meters for agricultural connections to release the grants, but the State government turned it down, he said.
State Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy said: “It is not appropriate for a person holding high position to raise such irrational issues. The comments on Telangana expose that the Prime Minister has no respect for elected bodies or Parliament.”
