Modi’s colonial settler project takes practical shape

Srinagar, August 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government’s colonial settler project is taking its practical shape, as two non-Kashmiris have purchased land in the territory. Indian government disclosed, today, that two persons from outside IIOJK have purchased properties in the territory since New Delhi abrogated the special status of the region on 5 August 2019.

The disclosure was made by the Indian Minister of State (MoS) Home, Nityanand Rai, while replying to a written question in Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, whether many people from Indian states have purchased and are also interested to buy properties in IIOJK. The Indian minister said, as per the information provided by the authorities of IIOJK, two persons from outside have purchased two properties in the territory since August 2019.

The Modi regime had on August 05, 2019 repealed the Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that granted special status to the occupied territory. Along with Article 370, the Modi regime had also revoked Article 35A which authorized the puppet administration of IIOJK to define “state subjects” and reserved for them certain rights, including the right to own land in the territory.

The Modi government tried to justify its illegal move by saying that it will bring outside investment to the region which is now “free of the restrictions” imposed by the special status. The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs had notified new land laws for IIOJK in October 2020, making it possible for any Indian citizen to buy land in the region which was earlier meant only for the permanent residents under Article 370.
