Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), part of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has stated that the efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reshape the regional narrative through unrealistic claims are ineffectual against the actual conditions on the ground.
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal responded to Modi’s recent pronouncements during his visit to Srinagar. Iqbal criticized Modi for his authoritarian approach and the misleading portrayal of peace and development, suggesting that these are merely superficial coverings for strategies that sustain violence and repression in the region.
The DFP spokesman asserted the Kashmiri commitment to honoring the sacrifices of their martyrs, indicating that the community is not swayed by the superficial promises made by Indian leadership. Iqbal highlighted the discrepancy between Modi’s declarations and the reality of numerous Kashmiris imprisoned under his administration.
Iqbal further noted the severe measures, including the deployment of over a million military personnel by India in the region to maintain its hold, which only serves to fortify the Kashmiri resistance against Indian dominion. He also mentioned the essential role of Pakistan in the Kashmir conflict, emphasizing that the longstanding Indo-Pak tensions pivot around the unresolved Kashmir dispute, without which no genuine peace or progress can be achieved.
The statement concluded with a rejection of the legitimacy of any elections conducted under Indian governance in the region, insisting on a legitimate referendum for Kashmiris to decide their political fate independently.
