Modi regime’s another nefarious move to mislead world about IIOJK situation

Srinagar, August 29, 2023 (PPI-OT): Narendra Modi-led Indian government is making one after another attempt to mislead the world about the ground situation and peddle its so-called normalcy narrative in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In its latest such nefarious move, the Modi regime is going to organize the Miss World contest in the internationally-recognized disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Miss World Organisation chair, Julia Morley, talking to reporters while on a visit to Srinagar on Monday said India will host a month-long series of events for the annual international beauty contest from November to December, with part of the schedule to be held in occupied Kashmir.

The organisation said the competitors will take part in “talent showcases, sports challenges, and charitable initiatives” to shortlist participants before the grand finale in December.

Miss World organisers claim that the contest “celebrates the beauty, intellect, and humanitarian efforts of women”. However, the pageant has in the past sparked protests from critics who say it perpetuates the objectification of women and contributes to a beauty industry that pressures women to appear a certain way.

The Modi government has also roped in the Miss World 2022 Karolina Bielawska of Poland to further its plan of hosting this year’s contest in IIOJK. Karolina talking to reporters in Srinagar on Monday said that she was stunned by scenery of the territory.

Earlier in May this year, the Modi regime tried to hoodwink the international community about the grim situation of the territory through the hosting of a G20 tourism meeting in Srinagar. However, it failed to succeed in its wicked designs as many countries including China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Indonesia, Oman and Egypt boycotted the event.

The Indian government is holding such events in the territory after criminalizing the dissent, curbing media freedoms and usurping all basic rights and freedoms of the people of the territory.
