Srinagar, May 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The miseries of the oppressed people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have increased manifold as the Narendra Modi-led Indian government has turned the territory into a military fortress ahead of the G20 meeting in Srinagar commencing on Monday. The occupation authorities have deployed thousands of Indian troops across the occupied territory, particularly in Srinagar. Heavy deployment of elite National Security Guard (NSG) and marine commandos have been made in addition to Indian Army, police, and paramilitary personnel around a convention centre on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar, the venue of the meeting to be held from May 22-24. Vehicles passing through the city are being randomly checked and commuters thoroughly frisked by the forces’ personnel. Indian forces’ personnel are conducting special drills in Dal Lake and the areas around the convention centre.
Indian troops have also stepped up house raids and cordon and search operations to terrorize the people and enforce the graveyard-like silence across occupied Jammu and Kashmir. In the ongoing massive crackdown, over 2000 Hurriyat activists and innocent people have been arrested by Indian Army, police and paramilitary personnel in the last three weeks. The people of the occupied territory are witnessing disgrace, humiliation and insult at the hands of Indian forces’ personnel ahead of the event being organized by the Modi government with a malicious intention to hoodwink the international community into believing that situation is normal in IIOJK.
The intensified restrictions, checking and frisking in the name of security measures ahead of the high-profile event have made the life of the people a hell. Indian violent military operations have further worsened the already grim situation in Kashmir and lives, dignity and freedom of the Kashmiris are at the mercy of brutal Indian troops. Even women and children are facing the worst persecution at the hands of Indian troops in IIOJK. Political experts and analysts in their interview and statements in Srinagar said the G20 meeting in IIOJK will only embolden India to continue its widespread use of repressive measures to silence the Kashmiris. They said, the G20 countries must remember that their participation at the Srinagar event will give legitimacy to India’s brutal actions in IIOJK.
The political experts and analysts maintained that the G20 meeting in Srinagar is a smokescreen aimed at diverting the world’s attention from the massive human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in the occupied territory. The G20 members must skip this meeting to demonstrate their commitment to the human rights and values, they said, adding that the international community must wake up to rescue the beleaguered Kashmiris from Indian brutal occupation.
