Modi-controlled IIOJK administration imposes property tax 

Srinagar, February 21, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party-controlled administration has imposed property tax in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir that will be applicable from April 01, 2023. The IIOJK administration has notified the rules for levy, assessment and collection of property tax in the Municipalities and Municipal Councils of the territory through a notification issued by Housing and Urban Development department

“These rules shall be called Jammu and Kashmir Property Tax (Other Municipalities) Rules, 2023. These shall come into force from 1st of April, 2023,” the notification reads. The IIOJK administration was given permission by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs in October 2020 to impose property taxes in the territory through Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Municipal Committees.

With the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Adaptation of State Laws) Order, 2020, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs amended the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000, and the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.
