Islamabad, A recent report accuses the Modi government of implementing policies aimed at altering the demographic composition of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), ostensibly to dilute the Muslim majority’s identity and influence in the region. This strategy purportedly involves settling non-local residents and investors in the territory, a move critics describe as part of a broader settler colonial agenda.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, which afforded the region special autonomy and rights, is cited as a pivotal step in this alleged demographic engineering effort. The report highlights the distribution of land in IIOJK to Indian nationals and investors under the guise of promoting investment, while local residents face exclusion from employment and other opportunities.
The issuance of lakhs of domicile certificates predominantly to non-locals is underscored as a key tactic in this demographic transformation. Such measures, the report contends, not only threaten to reshape the region’s cultural and identity landscape but could also significantly impact the outcome of any future plebiscite, thereby undermining the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as recognized by United Nations resolutions and international law.
The report calls for resistance against these policies by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and urges the international community to intervene in preventing the Modi regime from further altering the demographic makeup of the Muslim-majority territory.
