Modern technology imperative to boost agriculture sector: President 

Islamabad, January 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):President Dr Arif Alvi has said the use of modern technology and latest methods of cultivation are imperative to boost the agriculture sector in the country. Speaking at the Farmers Day ceremony in Islamabad, he also emphasized the use of new seed varieties to increase per acre yield of major crops and uplift the agriculture sector.

The President said it was heartening to note that the farmers earned record Rs 1100 billion from the production of their crops. He urged the famers to use modern technology to get better price of their produce by minimizing the role of middlemen and use drip and spray irrigation to tackle the issue of water scarcity.

The President observed that urea prices in the international market were very high, but the local manufacturers kept the price of fertilizer low and government also maintained stock to check the prices. He lauded the farmer’s community for producing ample crops of rice, wheat and maize last year. President Alvi said the government has reduced duties and taxes to facilitate growth in the livestock sector.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Fakhar Imam speaking on the occasion assured that the government would resolve issues faced by the farmers. The minister said the government will form a commission to find ways and means to modernize the agriculture sector.
