Srinagar, The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), led by senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has issued a warning about a purported conspiracy to provoke sectarianism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU, in a declaration made in Srinagar, called upon the public to resist the divisive plans of communal elements by maintaining unity. The organization, representing a coalition of various religious and social groups, emphasized the importance of solidarity in the face of potential sectarian provocations.
In addition to addressing the issue of sectarianism, the MMU also appealed to imams of mosques, scholars, heads of religious institutions, and the general public to observe ‘Namaz-e-Istisqa’ (prayer for rain) on the upcoming Friday. This call is in response to the ongoing dry spell affecting the region. The MMU announced that a main congregation for this prayer would take place at Jamia Masjid Srinagar following the Friday prayers.
Furthermore, the MMU urged scholars to play an active role in addressing serious social and moral issues within Kashmiri society. The statement highlighted the necessity for religious leaders and their followers to unite in order to counteract the harmful intentions of those who are against Islam and unity.
The Majlis-e-Ulema comprises various religious and social organizations, including Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar, Darul Uloom Raheemiyah Bandipora, Mufti Azam’s Muslim Personal Law Board, Anjuman-e-Shari’a Shia, and many others. This collective represents a broad spectrum of religious, social, and educational associations in the region.
This statement from the MMU underscores the organization’s concerns about potential efforts to disrupt the communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir and its commitment to fostering unity and addressing societal challenges.
