New Delhi: The charred body of Shahdeb Dey, a 38-year-old journalist who was missing since March 29, was discovered in a field in North Andaman district, according to local police. Dey, who owned a local news channel named ‘Republic Andaman’, was found in Deshbandu Nagar in Diglipur.
Authorities have classified the incident as a murder and have detained four individuals, including a woman, for questioning. Superintendent of Police Shweta K Sugathan stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the murder.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Gangaiyya, his associates Rama Subramanian and Ramesh, and a local resident named Bitika Mallik. Interrogations suggest that on March 29, Bitika invited Shahdeb to meet her at Nehru Yuva Kendra in Diglipur.
Shahdeb was known for his outspoken stance against alleged illegal activities such as soil cutting, timber smuggling, illegal alcohol production, and gambling in the region.
