Misleading Claims of Unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Circulated on Social Media

Islamabad: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has raised concerns over misleading claims of unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being circulated on social media. The ministry stated that these claims are being propagated using AI-generated visuals, outdated footage, and unrelated videos, contributing to a fabricated narrative of chaos in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, the ministry’s Fact Checker highlighted that the misleading materials being shared include footage of factory fires, protests over load-shedding, and even clips from Syria, all mis-captioned to suggest turmoil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ministry pointed out that Afghan and Indian social media accounts are amplifying this narrative, suggesting a coordinated effort involving foreign and politically motivated entities to spread disinformation.

The ministry’s statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to counter misinformation and ensure that the public receives accurate information about the situation in the region. The role of social media platforms in disseminating such content has been a growing concern, prompting calls for greater scrutiny and accountability in managing the spread of false information.
