Mirwaiz Urges India to Seek Political Resolution for Kashmir Peace

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has called on India to abandon forceful tactics and instead seek a political resolution to secure enduring peace in Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz made these remarks in a video message released in Srinagar. He stressed the necessity of a political solution to the Kashmir conflict, highlighting that ongoing detentions and house arrests of key community figures, including lawyers, journalists, and civil society members, fail to normalize the situation. “More people are being arrested and youth harassed by police summons, which only exacerbates the tensions,” Mirwaiz noted.

He pointed out that the sentiments of the people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir must be addressed for any genuine resolution. He also condemned the personal restrictions imposed on him, such as being barred from attending Friday prayers, labeling these actions as signs of administrative desperation that fail to deter his advocacy for a political pathway.

Mirwaiz further criticized the BJP-led administration’s control over his movements, detailing restrictions that have been reimposed since his release from house detention last September. “This ongoing confinement without clear rationale reflects the authorities’ arbitrary use of power and adds to the distress of those engaged in peaceful political activities,” he added.
