Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Remains Under House Arrest in Srinagar for Third Consecutive Friday

Srinagar: The authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have continued to place All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, preventing him from attending and delivering the Friday sermon at Srinagar Jamia Masjid for the third week in a row.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision to confine Mirwaiz at his residence has barred him from leading prayers and addressing the congregation at the mosque. This action comes amidst his vocal condemnations of what he describes as his “undeclared and illegal” detention, which restricts not only his religious duties but also his social and educational engagements.

Mirwaiz’s ongoing legal efforts to seek a permanent release from house arrest include a forthcoming rejoinder to be filed before the High Court. He continues to challenge the claims of normalcy in the region, questioning the reasons behind his restricted movement while such assertions are made. Additionally, Mirwaiz extended his condolences over the recent death of Mohammad Shafi Pandith, expressing his solidarity with the family during this time.
