Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Denied Permission to Lead Friday Prayers in Srinagar

Srinagar, The authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have once again prevented Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, from leaving his house to lead or participate in Friday prayers. This continuation of house arrest restricts not only Mirwaiz’s personal freedoms but also affects the community that follows his religious guidance.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, released a statement expressing disappointment over the authorities’ decision. Despite initial indications that Mirwaiz would be allowed to attend the prayers at Jamia Masjid, he was placed under house detention again. The mosque represents a critical spiritual center for Muslims in the region, and Mirwaiz’s absence disrupts not only his religious obligations but also the spiritual lives of his followers.

The Anjuman Auqaf’s statement highlights the continuous appeals made to the authorities for Mirwaiz’s release, which have been ignored. With a court hearing scheduled for March 6th, there is hope within the community that the judicial system will intervene to ensure Mirwaiz’s religious and civil rights are respected.

The organization’s plea to the court emphasizes the importance of religious freedom and the negative impact of government interference in religious practices. They call for the restoration of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s fundamental right to freely practice his religion and lead his community in prayer, especially on significant occasions like the Friday prayers.
