Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Barred from Juma Prayers, Placed Under House Arrest in Srinagar

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has been placed under house arrest by the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, preventing him from attending and leading the obligatory Juma prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid reported that the New Delhi-installed administration restricted the Mirwaiz to his home early this morning. This action stopped him from delivering his sermon to the thousands who gather at the mosque every Friday, a ritual that holds significant communal and spiritual importance.

The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid strongly condemned the ongoing detention practices, emphasizing the negative impact they have on the Muslim community in the region. The organization renewed its appeals for an end to what it describes as unjust and repetitive detentions of the Mirwaiz, urging respect for religious practices and community rights in IIOJK.
