Mirwaiz forum takes jibes at reports on Indian flag unfurling on Hurriyat offices

Srinagar, July 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly reacted to the media reports suggesting that some elements backed by Modi government are planning to unfurl Indian flag on the offices of Hurriyat forum and other pro-freedom organizations saying that Hurriyat leadership is committed to the struggle for achieving right to self-determination.

The forum made these remarks in response to some stories appearing in some media that Indian Army has launched a gang to wave Indian flags on the offices of pro-freedom organizations. “This move is Indian army sponsored to further suppress the Hurriyat leadership and Kashmiris. But the people and their leadership is committed to struggle for achievement of right to self-determination,” the statement said.

The Hurriyat forum pointed out that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir is under India’s illegal occupation and people are living in a big prison where fundamental rights are quite invisible. “Freedom of expression and freedom of movement stands completely snatched. Anyone who tries to express or condemn the excesses by the Indian authorities is booked under draconian law Public Safety Act and lodged in jails across India with no basic facilities at all,” it added.

The condition of Kashmiri detainees in Indian jails, the statement said, is very pathetic. “Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is continuously and arbitrary under house detention and so are all other Hurriyat leaders, especially after August 05, 2019.”

“Forcible occupation, demographic changes, restrictions on media and occupation of our offices and unfurling of Indian flag on our offices are two sides of the same coin, and depict the aftershocks of forcible occupation,” the forum deplored. It demanded that the situation warrants attention of international community especially the Secretary General of United Nations.

The forum asked the UN chief to send a fact-finding mission to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the situation and play a role for amicable settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
