Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah remembered on his anniversary

Srinagar, July 04, 2021 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the 58th death anniversary of Mirwaiz Maulana Ateequllah Shah, the prominent religious scholar, spiritual leader and former president of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, was observed with great devotion and respect, under the auspices of over a century-old institution.

The Anjuman, while paying homage to the late Mirwaiz for his invaluable educational services and reforms to the institution, said his tenure as the chairman was an unforgettable, illustrious and a golden period for the Anjuman in all respects. Mirwaiz Maulana Ateequllah was a great Islamic scholar who was greatly respected and loved by people and was easily accessible to all for guidance and help. His contribution on social and educational fronts will be remembered for a long time, the Anjuman said in a statement.

The statement said that shortly after the establishment of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam in 1899, Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah was appointed its General Secretary and after the demise of Mirwaiz Ahmadullah Shah, the responsibility of presiding over the institution was placed on the shoulders of the late Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah and since then until his last breath, the late Mirwaiz added a valuable chapter in the history of the Anjuman by devoting all his abilities to achieve the goals and objectives of the institution.

The statement said that the late Mirwaiz made great efforts for the betterment and reform of the society besides guiding the people of Kashmir in the matters of politics and religion in the most unfavourable conditions. His divine qualities and God-given abilities benefited the people in every walk of life.

Meanwhile, this year too, due to the continued illegal detention of the current Chairman of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Covid-19 pandemic and the closure of educational institutions; neither a seminar nor a tribute gathering for the late Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah was possible. However, the people were requested to pray for the elevation of the status in Jannah of the late Mirwaiz and refuge to the entire humanity from the raging Coronavirus pandemic, the statement said.
