Ministry of Planning and WFP Collaborate to Combat Malnutrition in Pakistani Children

Islamabad, A new partnership has been formed between the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives and the United Nations World Food Program to tackle malnutrition among children and aid flood victims in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, During a meeting on Thursday between Muhammad Sami Saeed, the caretaker Minister for Planning, and Coco Ushiyama, the new Country Director of the UN World Food Program in Pakistan, the two parties discussed cooperation on food security policy, stunting prevention, education, and emergency response for flood-affected communities.

The discussion underscored the critical issue of stunting in Pakistani children and the government’s initiatives to combat malnutrition. Minister Muhammad Sami Saeed outlined a 25 billion Rupees project to provide school meals to children in 50 underdeveloped districts and a development program aimed at uplifting the 20 poorest districts nationwide.

The meeting also focused on emergency response measures for flood victims, stressing the importance of climate resilience. Minister Saeed guaranteed the UN representative the full support of the Pakistani government in these endeavors, with a particular focus on aiding the flood-stricken Balochistan region.
