ISLAMABAD: An Inter-Ministerial and Inter-Departmental meeting was convened at the Ministry of Human Rights, chaired by Mrs. Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights. The meeting involved senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, and the Department of Passports and Immigration, focusing on the expedited repatriation of Pakistani nationals detained in Cambodia and Thailand.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, after which Mrs. Saba Sadiq thanked the participants for their swift attendance. She highlighted the government’s commitment to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and informed them that Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Deputy Prime Minister to oversee the cases of Pakistanis detained abroad due to complex immigration and legal issues.
The Director from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated the attendees on the situation of 54 Pakistani nationals detained in Cambodia. These individuals were reportedly taken into custody during operations by Cambodian authorities against illegal scamming camps. It was confirmed that consular access has been granted, and the detainees are receiving humane treatment, adequate food, and have not faced any form of ill-treatment.
