Islamabad: In a move aimed at streamlining government operations, the Ministry of Housing and Works has announced the abolition of 709 vacant positions within the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD). This decision follows the Federal Cabinet’s initiative for the rightsizing of the federal government and adheres to the recommendations set forth by a High-Powered Committee.
The Secretary of Housing and Works, utilizing the authority granted under the Schedule of the Financial Management and Powers, has declared a total of 889 posts as dying, thereby permanently eliminating those that have remained unfilled. This decision has been formalized through an official notification from the Ministry.
The abolished posts span a range of roles including Architect, Assistant Architect, Assistant Financial Advisor, and Deputy Assistant Director (Horticulture), among others. The list also includes positions such as Sports Officer, Assistant Librarian, and various clerical and support roles.
The majority of these positions were deemed redundant following the digitalization of systems within the department. As a result, the regular appointments for these roles have been officially terminated, marking a significant shift towards more efficient government operations.
This development is part of a broader government strategy to optimize workforce allocation and improve operational efficiency across federal departments.
