Karachi: The Ministry of National Food Security & Research has signed an agreement with the HEJ, International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences to enhance collaboration in food security and research. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer visited the HEJ Centre, where discussions centered on improving the livestock sector and seed quality in Pakistan.
According to Press Information Department, the Minister was welcomed by Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, and Professor Dr. Atta ur Rahman. The Minister was briefed on the achievements and infrastructure of the HEJ Centre, which has received significant international grants and civil awards. The institute covers 100 acres with 20 buildings, marking it as a leading research facility.
During his visit, Minister Tanveer highlighted the disorganized state of Pakistan’s livestock sector and its potential contribution to GDP. He urged the HEJ Centre to focus on seed quality standards and the application of biotechnology in livestock. The agreement will see the HEJ Centre providing commercial testing facilities for pesticide residue analysis, aiming to improve the country’s agricultural output.
