Islamabad: A meeting chaired by Rana Sana Ullah, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs and Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, reviewed the National Commission for Minorities Bill 2024 at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. The session was attended by key federal ministers, including Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Azam Nazeer Tarrar, and Ahsan Iqbal.

According to Press Information Department, the committee discussed making the National Commission for Minorities independent and free from ministerial influence. The subcommittee proposed financial and administrative autonomy for the commission, which will have 13 members, with nine from minority communities. The Ministry of Law and Justice has been tasked to finalize the bill within three days, incorporating the subcommittee’s amendments.

The meeting also reviewed policies on interfaith harmony and religious tolerance. Rana Sana Ullah highlighted the importance of mosques in Islamic society and proposed their activation as community centers. The committee directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to present the amended policies to the federal cabinet for approval.
