Minister Urges Provinces to End Electricity Duty Through Bills

Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has reached out to all provincial Chief Ministers with a proposal to halt the collection of electricity duty through monthly bills starting next month. This initiative aims to address the growing concerns surrounding the complexities of multiple charges, taxes, and duties imposed on electricity consumers.

In his communication, the Minister for Power urged the Chief Ministers to support the plan, highlighting how the current billing structure, burdened with levies and high tariffs, poses challenges for consumers trying to manage their electricity expenses.

Leghari’s letters emphasized the need for provincial governments to consider alternative ways to collect levies and duties instead of relying on electricity bills. He called for cooperation in exploring and implementing new revenue collection methods that would simplify the billing process for consumers.

This move reflects an ongoing effort to streamline electricity billing and reduce confusion, potentially offering relief to consumers across the country.
