Minister of State Shaza Fatima Addresses VPN Impact on Internet Speeds in Islamabad

Islamabad: In a detailed press conference held today, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima, addressed concerns regarding recent internet speed issues across Pakistan. She strongly refuted claims that the government was deliberately slowing down the internet, instead attributing the sluggish speeds to increased VPN usage prompted by app-related download issues.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Fatima explained that complications with certain applications had driven many users to employ VPNs, which in turn affected overall internet velocity. She assured the public that these issues had been effectively resolved through timely government interventions, underscoring the administration’s dedication to supporting the information technology sector.

Minister Fatima also highlighted significant strides in the IT sector, noting a substantial increase in IT remittances, which rose from 2.596 billion dollars the previous year to 3.223 billion dollars in the last financial year. This growth was attributed to government initiatives aimed at boosting IT exports.

Further expanding on government plans, she announced ongoing efforts to transition federal operations to a paperless system and detailed upcoming projects, including the construction of IT parks in Islamabad and Karachi. The Islamabad IT Park is expected to be completed by March of the following year. Additionally, she spoke about the expansion of e-employment centers nationwide, with over two hundred centers established to enhance digital employment opportunities.
