Cambridge: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, recently visited Cambridge University to discuss increasing educational opportunities for Pakistani students in the United Kingdom. The visit focused on addressing procedural challenges that have hindered the utilization of co-funded PhD scholarships between Pakistan and Cambridge.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Minister Iqbal met with Hilary Perott from the Strategic Partnership Organisation, where they explored ways to foster academic collaboration. Despite the availability of scholarships, procedural obstacles have prevented their effective use. Minister Iqbal directed the Higher Education Commission’s Chairman to resolve these issues, ensuring that scholarships reach deserving students who meet Cambridge’s criteria.
The Minister also tasked the Member of Science and Technology at the Planning Commission with following up on the issue, stressing the importance of providing financial support to all eligible students. He highlighted his belief in enabling Pakistani students to access top universities globally, sharing his own experience of studying at the University of Pennsylvania through a scholarship.
Additionally, Minister Iqbal has engaged with Pakistan’s commercial banks, urging them to create scholarship programs as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand higher education opportunities through public-private partnerships, reflecting the government’s dedication to educational investment and economic development.
