Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja attended the final session of the ACT AI Cycle-1, an eight-week Artificial Intelligence training programme conducted through the HEC Smart Classroom. The event marked the completion of the programme by 6,000 students, showcasing a significant step in equipping the youth with AI skills.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the initiative was implemented through a partnership involving the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, HEC Pakistan, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, and AISkillBridge. This collaboration aimed to provide Pakistani youth with advanced AI knowledge and practical skills.

During the event, the Minister congratulated the participants and engaged with the graduating students, who shared their experiences and discussed AI tools they developed during the course. She emphasized the transformative impact of AI across various fields and encouraged students to continuously enhance their skills to remain competitive in the job market. She also praised the enthusiasm of students from remote areas, highlighting the potential of Pakistan’s youth and the importance of technological skills for economic sustainability.

The first cycle of ACT AI received applications from over 82,000 aspiring participants, with a merit-based selection process narrowing the field to 6,000 students. Among these graduates, 200 will serve as master trainers, while the rest will contribute as a skilled workforce in Pakistan’s digital economy.

Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia Ul Haq and other officials presented an overview of the programme, emphasizing the critical role of AI capabilities and digital literacy in addressing national challenges and fostering innovation and economic growth. The programme aims to empower the next generation to enhance Pakistan’s digital resilience and leverage opportunities in the global digital economy.
