Minister for Railways sent-off new Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Freight Train 

Islamabad, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):Minister for Railways Azam Swati sent-off new Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Freight Train from Margallah station in the federal capital today (Tuesday). The freight train is carrying 26 bogies with 23 tons of goods in each bogie. The length of the train is 6,500 kilometres, of which 2,570 km is in Iran, 2,000 km in Turkey, and around 1,900 km in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Azam Swati said the freight train will increase communications among countries of Economic Cooperation Organization comprising Iran, Pakistan and Turkey with the aim of strengthening regional communications and trade. He said strengthening and expanding ECO rail cooperation can contribute to regional stability and peace.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was also present on the occasion, said this development is a new stage in the program for advancing the policy of regional connectivity and trade between neighbours and other countries. Besides, ambassadors of Iran and Turkey, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and a representative of ECO attended the ceremony.
