Islamabad, March 16, 2022 (PPI-OT): Minister for health and DG health of Gambia called on Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mr. Shibli Faraz to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of medicine and engineering. Gambia’s Minister for health shared his views regarding the excellent health-care human resource generation and equipment manufacturing in Pakistan.
He told the Federal Minister that Gambia recognizes the expertise of Pakistan in this field and would want to explore ways for cooperation between the two countries. He said that Gambia wishes to import pharmaceuticals and medical equipment directly from Pakistan. Gambia is also looking for collaboration and support in terms of capacity building of their human resource in the health-care sector.
Mr. Shibli Faraz said that Pakistan is very well known for its doctors and health-care workers. It is one of the leading countries to export health-care workers especially in times of Covid pandemic. The qualification and expertise imparted by our medical institutions is recognized around the globe through our doctors, and we can look for opportunities to provide capacity building trainings to our trade partners.
He told the Gambian delegation that the country is progressing rapidly in sustainable engineering products and is ready to export equipment to Gambia in not just the health-care but other sectors too like commercial agriculture, engineering, and electronics. In a follow-up meeting held at the ministry regarding the implementation of STI Policy 2022, the federal minister stated that the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy is at the heart of PM Imran Khan’s vision to make Pakistan a self-sustainable country through local manufacturing and import substitution.
All stakeholders will be taken on board and work in close collaboration to boost local industry and avail opportunities to increase our exports to new markets with high potential, like Africa.
