Minister for Finance Chairs ECC Meeting, Approves Key Grants and FBR Proposals.

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet held at the Finance Division. The meeting was attended by several key ministers, including Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Industries and Production, and Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Minister for Power, along with other senior officials.

According to Press Information Department, the ECC approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs. 16.995 billion for clearing verified pending liabilities of the Pakistan Post Office Department. Additionally, a TSG of Rs. 1.317 billion was sanctioned for conducting Local Government elections in various regions, including Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, and Punjab during the fiscal year 2024-25.

The committee also reviewed five summaries submitted by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as part of the FBR Transformation Plan. These summaries focused on enhancing operational expertise, implementing a performance management regime, capacity building, anti-smuggling measures, and improving mobility and transit accommodations for FBR officers. The ECC granted a principled approval to these proposals, emphasizing the need for third-party impact evaluations to assess their effectiveness before the next financial budget and by the end of 2025.

The ECC also directed the Revenue Division and Finance Division to collaboratively work out budget allocation and release mechanisms for the proposals.
