Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced a significant overhaul in the policy framework governing the National Highway Authority (NHA), focusing on transparency, efficiency, and accountability in development projects.
In a meeting held on Tuesday, Mr. Khan expressed concerns over projects lacking visibility and tangible progress. He directed that starting November, funds will no longer be allocated for the repair or maintenance of older projects that fail to demonstrate clear outcomes.
The Minister emphasized that only new and duly approved projects will proceed, with all approvals requiring endorsement from the NHA Board rather than individual officials. This move aims to eliminate financial irregularities and dishonest practices within the NHA.
Mr. Khan also demanded a detailed breakdown of ongoing projects from officers, reflecting a strict stance against bogus and long-pending initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, NHA Chairman Muhammad Sheheryar Sultan, and other high-level officials.
