Minister Announces Modernization of Plant Protection Department to Boost Agriculture


Islamabad, The Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has declared a significant upgrade for the Department of Plant Protection, aiming to modernize its operations and ensure top quality benchmarks in the agriculture sector. During a meeting with Dr. Tariq Khan, Director General of the Department, Minister Hussain emphasized the importance of digitalization and strategic improvements in departmental functions.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the plan includes digitalizing the pesticide registration system and enhancing the fumigation services by increasing the number of fumigation companies. Minister Hussain highlighted the need for an effective inspection system for rice and mango plants to maintain high quality and standards, which are crucial for boosting exports.



The modernization effort will involve developing a comprehensive strategy to improve the overall performance of the Plant Protection Department, which plays a critical role in the agricultural sector. The government’s commitment to increasing exports through enhanced agricultural practices was reiterated, with assurances that no compromises would be made on quality and standards.



On this occasion, DG Dr. Tariq Khan provided a briefing on the current functions, performance, and challenges faced by the department, laying the groundwork for the planned enhancements.
