Islamabad, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the pivotal role of the Planning Commission in accurately identifying economic and developmental priorities to tackle national challenges. During a meeting held at the Planning Commission on Wednesday, he articulated Prime Minister’s vision of infusing national institutions with top minds and talent to boost their performance.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Iqbal highlighted the necessity of overhauling current procedures to facilitate the inclusion of talented individuals within the Planning Commission. He instructed the Secretary of Planning to develop a strategy aimed at enhancing the efficiency of officers within the Ministry of Planning and the Planning Commission.
The minister also advocated for a new mechanism that broadens the involvement of experts in the PC-1 review process for development projects from provinces and other ministries. Furthermore, he proposed the creation of a high-level policy board, comprised of experienced professionals from diverse sectors, including the public and private sectors, academia, and industry, to advise and guide on strategic matters.
Minister Iqbal directed the Secretary of Planning and Planning Commission members to delineate the organizational structure and remit of this policy board and to submit their recommendations promptly. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging expert knowledge and experience to steer Pakistan towards sustainable development and economic resilience.
