Minister Ahsan Iqbal Advocates for Modernization Pathways to Propel Global South Towards Prosperity


Beijing: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the transformative potential of adopting innovative and sustainable modernization strategies for the Global South, speaking at a forum during the Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development.



According to Press Information Department, Minister Iqbal highlighted the critical role of advanced technologies and regional cooperation in accelerating modernization efforts within the Global South. He stressed that these regions could significantly benefit from the fourth Industrial Revolution by integrating digital advancements like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things to enhance their developmental processes. This approach is aimed at not only fostering economic growth but also improving the quality of life, ensuring sustainable development, and promoting inclusive societies.



The minister also underscored the importance of education, particularly in STEM and vocational training, to prepare the youth of the Global South for future economic landscapes. Moreover, he outlined the need for robust public institutions and governance systems that prioritize transparency, accountability, and public service. Prof Iqbal called for increased investment in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture to combat climate change and support economic stability.



Additionally, the significance of the Global Development Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping, was noted as a vital component in promoting sustainable development goals and enhancing modernization across the Global South. The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to South-South Cooperation and to sharing successful practices that can be replicated across the region to achieve common development goals.
