Minister Abdul Aleem Khan Mandates E-Challan System on GT Road for Traffic Violations

Islamabad: Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has issued directives for the strict enforcement of axle load restrictions and the implementation of an electronic challan (e-challan) system for traffic violations on the GT Road. The decision came during a joint departmental meeting with the Frontier Works Organization and the National Highway Authority held in Islamabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting addressed the need for coordinated policies between the involved departments to better manage traffic and reduce road accidents. Minister Khan emphasized the importance of establishing weight stations along the GT Road to monitor and manage the load of heavy vehicles.

Furthermore, the Minister instructed the enforcement of e-challans for various violations, including over speeding, not wearing seat belts, and using mobile phones while driving. He highlighted that surveillance through cameras installed on national highways would be instrumental in overseeing and reducing traffic violations, subsequently decreasing the rate of accidents.

Additionally, Abdul Aleem Khan discussed infrastructural developments, specifically mentioning the Sialkot-Kharian-Islamabad motorway. He stressed that this project should feature dual carriageways and six lanes, ensuring it is completed within the stipulated time to facilitate smoother and safer travel.

The enforcement of these new measures on the GT Road aims to promote road safety and ensure compliance with traffic laws across the country.
