Islamabad: Minister for Communications and Investment Board Abdul Aleem Khan today described the Gilgit to Khunjerab Motorway as a “game changer” for enhancing land connectivity between Pakistan, China, and Central Asian countries. This announcement came during a comprehensive review of various projects by the National Highway Authority in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Khan chaired the meeting where the strategic importance of connecting to Gwadar through road and rail was also emphasized. He assured that there would be no compromise on the quality of construction for the highways stretching from Gilgit to Chitral, Shandur, Mansehra, and other critical roads, underscoring the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The Minister pointed out that enhanced security and better facilities on these highways would significantly improve travel conditions for tourists and local citizens alike. Additionally, discussions at the meeting covered the deployment of Motorway Police and the enhancement of amenities for road users in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Minister Khan also directed the National Highway Authority to prioritize the construction of highways and to scout for new projects. He advised the NHA to develop a model that could be replicated in projects abroad, reflecting an ambitious plan to export their infrastructure development expertise.
