Millions of Acres Allocated for Green Pakistan Initiative to Boost Modern Farming

Islamabad: In a significant step toward agricultural advancement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that 4.8 million acres of land have been earmarked for the Green Pakistan Initiative. This initiative aims to enhance the agricultural sector through modern corporate farming and supporting small-scale farmers.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the land allocation includes 811,619 acres in Punjab, 52,713 acres in Sindh, 47,606 in Balochistan, and 74,140 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This distribution is part of an extensive effort to promote efficient land use and support agricultural development across the country.

The project has already seen the commencement of corporate farming activities in Cholistan, where two hundred thousand acres have been contracted to different enterprises. This development is aimed at boosting productivity and providing support to both corporate and small farmers, who make up 95 percent of Pakistan’s agricultural sector.

Furthermore, the Green Agri Mall initiative serves as a pivotal resource for farmers, offering access to essential agricultural inputs like fertilizers and seeds. Plans are in place to expand this service, with two hundred and fifty more Green Agri Malls scheduled to open nationwide over the next two years.

The Green Pakistan Water Management is also implementing strategies to enhance the management of agricultural water and introduce legislation to safeguard groundwater reserves, ensuring a sustainable future for the country’s agricultural resources.
