Islamabad, August 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Three years ago, India undertook illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). These steps were taken to implement India’s sinister strategy aimed at changing the demographic composition of IIOJK. To this end, millions of domicile certificates have already been issued to non-Kashmiris.
All these measures are in blatant violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions and international law including the 4th Geneva Convention. India remains undeterred in its illegal measures in IIOJK. The sham ‘delimitation commission’ exercise is a glaring example of Indian high-handedness in IIOJK to dis-empower and disenfranchise the Kashmiris.
The human rights situation in IIOJK remains untenable after India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019. More than 650 Kashmiris have embraced martyrdom since then, among which more than 130 were extra-judicially killed this year alone at the hands of the Indian occupation forces. Martyring Kashmiri youth in fake encounters and cordon-and-search operations by the Indian occupation forces has become a matter of routine in the IIOJK.
Arbitrary detentions of Kashmiri youth also continue unabated. Almost the entire Kashmiri political leadership remains illegally incarcerated. The pattern of ongoing atrocities in IIOJK reflects the anti-peace and anti-Muslim ‘Hindutva’ agenda of RSS-BJP dispensation.
Through its belligerent and strong-arm tactics, India has destabilized the entire region. Durable peace, security and development in the region hinges on peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
Pakistan will remain firm in its support to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. It is time for the international community to hold India accountable for its heinous crimes in the IIOJK and work towards a just and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The world must demand from India to halt its gross and widespread human rights violations in IIOJK, reverse the illegal and unilateral measures of 5 August 2019 and allow the Kashmiris to exercise their right of self-determination as enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
