Message of Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah on International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking

Islamabad, June 25, 2021 (PPI-OT):War against drugs is a multidimensional challenge that Ministry of Narcotics Control and Anti-Narcotics Force are trying to combat by combined efforts. By making the best possible use of our available resources, we have devised strategies to control the spread of drugs in our society. Considering the fact that it’s a multidimensional challenge, one sided effort cannot completely eliminate this menace. In order to secure the future of our coming generations, every individual has to play his role in fighting against drugs and this is the only way by which we can achieve our goal of creating drug free society. We must understand that it’s not an individual’s battle but a national one.

Drugs are not only impacting the individuals who fall victim to them but the entire support system surrounding them at the same time. In accordance with our policy of reducing demand and supply along with International Coordination to curb trafficking, the Ministry of Narcotics Control and Anti-Narcotics Force are working day and night to execute the set targets. From legislation to enforcement to rehabilitation of victims, the job done by the ANF is commendable.

I feel immensely proud to share that due to relentless efforts of all stakeholders, Pakistan has been given poppy free status in comity of nations. My primary focus is on demand reduction; this is the only way you can overcome the supply chain of drugs”. I hope that all the concerned quarters and every citizen of Pakistan will continue to play their role in process of drug eradication till we accomplish our set target. We are determined to save our country, our people and our youth from this hazard by all means.
