Memorandum Signed at COP29 to Boost Climate Resilience in Pakistan


Islamabad: A memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing climate resilience through research and innovation was signed at the Pakistan Pavilion during COP29. The agreement was attended by Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change.



According to Press Information Department, the MoU was signed by Bilal Anwar from the National Disaster Risk Management Fund and Amna Munawwar Awan of the Center for Climate Diplomacy of Pakistan. The collaboration focuses on research, training, and the development of innovative solutions to address climate challenges in Pakistan.



Amna Munawwar Awan emphasized the importance of collaborative research and announced the launch of training programs for professionals and communities. A key component of the initiative is the establishment of an innovation virtual lab designed for young entrepreneurs and students to create climate solutions. The partnership also aims to enhance coordination of international climate finance and explore emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain to improve disaster response. Munawwar highlighted the need for regional cooperation in managing transboundary climate risks, acknowledging that climate change affects areas beyond national borders. The collaboration seeks to position Pakistan as a leader in global climate policy discussions, advocating for equitable resource access and sustainable development goals.
