Mehbooba, Omar, Mehdi condemn police action on protesters in Srinagar

Srinagar, November 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party chief, Mehbooba Mufti, and National Conference Vice President, Omar Abdullah, have condemned the forcible removal of families of martyred civilians from the protest site in Srinagar by Indian police.

The family members of two of the four civilians martyred in a fake encounter in Hyderpora area of Srinagar, who were staging a sit-in at the Press Enclave, were forcibly removed by the Indian police around midnight on Wednesday and a few of them were detained.

Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said, “Instead of handing over mortal remains of the innocent civilians, police have arrested the family members for demanding the bodies of their loved ones. Unbelievably ruthless and insensitive. Least they can do is return the mortal remains immediately.”

Omar Abdullah called the police action outrageous, saying this is how the police in IIOJK are fulfilling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to remove “dil ki doori” and “Dilli se doori” made during an all-party meeting in June. It is outrageous that the authorities did not allow the families to conduct a peaceful sit-in protest, he said in a tweet.

“They have been reasonable in their demands and dignified in their conduct. The result of this is visible for all to see as the police drag them away in the dead of night,” Omar Abdullah said. NC leader Ruhullah Mehdi in a tweet ridiculing the Indian police action said that General Dyer must be very proud of you.
