Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed serious concerns over the non-payment of contractors in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, attributing the issue to the administration established by the Modi government. Her remarks underscore the financial strain faced by contractors who have completed projects but have not received compensation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba utilized the ‘X’ platform to call upon the Lieutenant Governor for intervention, highlighting the plight of contractors throughout Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). She pointed out that these contractors are under significant financial pressure, having taken out substantial loans from banks to meet the conditions of tenders, only to be left uncompensated upon the completion of their work.
The PDP leader elaborated on the hardships faced by these contractors, noting that payments for multiple projects have been withheld for various reasons, causing considerable distress to their families. Mehbooba’s comments come at a particularly sensitive time, with Eid just around the corner, amplifying the urgency of the situation.
Her critique reflects broader issues of governance and financial management in the region, spotlighting the challenges encountered by local businesses in navigating the administrative frameworks put in place by the central government.
