Mehbooba Mufti Criticizes Abrogation of Article 370, Describes Indian-Occupied Kashmir as a “Jail”

Srinagar, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over the abrogation of Article 370, stating that it has further complicated the Kashmir issue and turned Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) into a “jail.” Speaking to party workers in Islamabad district, Mufti criticized the 2019 decision to revoke the region’s special status, emphasizing that it is not acceptable to the people of IIOJK.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti said, “The Kashmir issue will not be allowed to be forgotten. 370 did not resolve the Kashmir issue; rather, it further complicated it. Time will come when they will understand what they have done with J and K.” Her remarks reflect growing discontent with the Indian government’s approach to the Kashmir issue.

Mufti urged the people of IIOJK to voice their concerns and speak out against the abrogation of Article 370. She noted that Kashmiris may appear silent at times, but they know when to stand up for what is right. Mufti’s comments suggest that the decision taken in 2019 continues to be a point of contention and that resistance to it remains strong among Kashmiris.

Reflecting on the current state of affairs in IIOJK, Mufti described it as a “jail,” highlighting the restrictions on freedom of speech and the ongoing repression in the territory. She stressed the need for a platform to express grievances and call for change.

Mufti’s criticism of the abrogation of Article 370 and her description of IIOJK as a “jail” underscore the challenges faced by Kashmiris and the continued tension in the region. Her statements resonate with those who oppose the Indian government’s policies in Kashmir and seek a resolution to the longstanding conflict.
