Srinagar: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has reiterated the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue and safeguarding Article 370, in the face of current political challenges.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti’s statements were made in Srinagar where she criticized the BJP’s approach to the Kashmir issue, expressing concern over attempts to sideline the matter. “The BJP wants to suppress the Kashmir issue, but we are adamant that its resolution is crucial,” she stated. She emphasized that her party’s participation in the upcoming IIOJK assembly elections is aimed at preventing the BJP from disregarding the critical issues of Kashmir and Article 370.
Mufti also challenged the BJP’s narrative of an improved situation in IIOJK, highlighting the prolonged delay in conducting elections and the growing discontent among the populace. She underscored the local desire for a government that genuinely addresses their needs and concerns. Further, Mufti responded to comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi about political dynasties in Kashmir, questioning the BJP’s track record on fulfilling its promises, such as the alleged deposit of Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s account and the creation of two crore jobs each year.
