Srinagar: In a significant political statement following the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti, President of the People’s Democratic Party, has urged the Indian government to cease its interference in the internal matters of the newly formed National Conference-Congress alliance government.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti expressed these views during a press conference in Srinagar. She emphasized the importance of respecting the outcomes of the recent elections, where the National Conference achieved a notable victory, and appealed to the Indian government to learn from these results. “The Indian government should take a lesson from the decisive verdict of the Kashmir Assembly polls and not meddle in the affairs of the government,” she stated.
Mufti also extended her congratulations to the National Conference for their electoral success and praised the electorate of Jammu and Kashmir for choosing a stable government over a hung assembly. She highlighted the difficulties faced by the region since August 5, 2019, underscoring the need for a strong and stable government to address these issues effectively.
Additionally, she thanked her party members for their dedication under challenging conditions and encouraged them to remain hopeful. “We will play the role of a constructive opposition. The issues of the people do not end with an election,” Mufti concluded, signaling a commitment to continue advocating for regional interests as an opposition party.
