Mehbooba Mufti Accuses Modi Government of Provoking Sectarian Tensions in India

Jammu: The President of the Peoples Democratic Party in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has accused the Modi government of steering India towards sectarian strife reminiscent of the 1947 riots.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government while addressing party workers in Jammu. She alleged that the government is intentionally creating divisions among communities based on religion. Mufti argued that the administration’s failure to deliver basic services such as employment, education, healthcare, and infrastructure has led them to deflect attention by focusing on religious controversies, such as the controversial search for temples under mosques.

Mufti referenced an incident in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, where several youths were reportedly killed. She claimed that those who speak out against such incidents face incarceration. Additionally, she highlighted claims that the historical Dargah of Ajmer Sharif was built over a Shiva temple, stressing that the site is a place of worship for people of multiple faiths, yet is being targeted by those seeking to create religious discord.

She urged the public to unite against these divisive tactics. Despite the existence of a coalition government formed by the National Conference and Congress in the region, Mufti contended that the BJP effectively governs through the Lieutenant Governor.
