Islamabad, January 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari says the media is playing an important role in human rights protection by highlighting violence against women, children and other vulnerable segments of the society. Addressing a workshop for journalists titled “Gender Sensitive Reporting” in Islamabad on Monday, she said the media workers need to get themselves aware of laws and international conventions on human rights for effective and balanced reporting.
She said journalists can also guide the government in implementation and flaws in laws. She said protection of all vulnerable segments of the society is one of the top responsibilities of the state, and media can play an effective role in this regard. The Minister said implementation of human rights related laws is a huge challenge for the government, and it has established a data sharing center in collaboration with UNDP to gather human rights related data; and all provinces are linked to this center.
