Mayor Wahab Prioritizes Development and Service in Karachi’s Roadmap for the Future

Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized his commitment to serve the citizens of Karachi with equality, focusing on addressing the city’s challenges in the remaining three and a half years of his tenure. He highlighted the importance of development and service over propaganda for the next election, reflecting on the People’s Party’s victory in the 2023 elections based on development initiatives.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), during his visit to the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Mayor Wahab discussed the role of journalism in society and the significance of positive, constructive journalism guidelines formulated by CPNE in elevating the quality of journalism at various levels. He met with senior journalists and editors, including Ijazul Haq and Aamir Mehmood, acknowledging the media’s role in highlighting city issues and communicating government performance to the public.

The Mayor addressed misconceptions regarding the composition of the KMC council and clarified the distribution of seats among different political parties. He also discussed the performance of the previous administration, comparing it to his current initiatives. Wahab highlighted several developments in Karachi, including revenue generation from municipal conservancy tax, commercial market rentals, improvements to Karachi Zoo, fire response efficiency, and infrastructure projects like road constructions and sports facilities.

Wahab detailed ongoing projects focused on addressing key issues like water, roads, and transport in Karachi. He announced plans to introduce additional buses, including electric buses on a BOT basis, and a biogas project in the Cattle Colony. Significant investments are being made to improve the city’s sewage system, with major water line upgrades and desalination projects underway. These initiatives aim to provide an additional 130 MGD of water to the city, addressing long-standing water scarcity issues.

The Mayor’s visit to the CPNE and his statements underscore his dedication to developing Karachi into a more sustainable and equitable city, with a focus on tangible solutions to its most pressing problems.
