Mayor of Karachi Unveils Renovations and New Maze Park at Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Advocates for Climate Action Through Tree Planting

Karachi: On Thursday, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a new maze park designed for children at Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim Clifton, where he also announced comprehensive plans for enhancing the city’s green spaces and infrastructure. During the event, which was attended by local officials and students, the Mayor emphasized the importance of community involvement in urban development and climate initiatives.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab called on students to participate in the Karachi Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) tree-plantation campaign to combat climate change. He highlighted the successful management of the monsoon season by KMC, which prevented the usual disruptions experienced in previous years. With the conclusion of the current rains, the Mayor announced that road repair and maintenance would begin across the city.

The event was marked by the presence of various dignitaries, including Shaukat Umri, Jeelani Yusuf, Muhammad Naeem Qureshi, and Director General of Parks and Horticulture Junaid Ullah Khan. Students and teachers from multiple schools were specially invited to witness the inauguration and participate in a tree-planting activity with the Mayor at the park.

Mayor Wahab also took the opportunity to encourage the young attendees to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness in the city by responsibly disposing of waste and setting a positive example for others. He reiterated the global importance of urban forestry in mitigating environmental pollution and managing urban temperatures.

In his address, Mayor Wahab outlined the KMC’s ongoing efforts to improve parks and recreational areas throughout all districts of Karachi. He noted that the city’s basic infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and underpasses, is under development to enhance overall functionality and aesthetics.

The creation of the maze park aims to provide a fun and engaging recreational space for the city’s youth, particularly enhancing the appeal of the coastal area of Clifton. He concluded by stressing the importance of ensuring that all parks in Karachi are equipped with adequate sports, recreational, and food facilities, reflecting KMC’s commitment to creating vibrant and attractive community spaces.
